Before Home Studios appeared, the production process was very different from the one we know nowadays. Each phase of production took place separately and was carried out by a professional who was specialised in the corresponding phase.

This subject will give students an insight of the theory and methods required for the recording of the main instruments which are part of today’s productions.
Ableton Live I

Ableton Live I

This subject introduces students to the key aspects of musical production by explaining different artistic disciplines, sound and music techniques, so that they become prepared to successfully produce their first pieces and mixes.

Students will learn how to edit and manipulate sound with the help of Ableton Live software, as well as the basics of digital sound mixing. They will also be taught different techniques and tools to manipulate and transform sound.
Acoustics

Acoustics

When handling sound, a solid knowledge about its nature and behaviour is essential. This subject provides students with the fundamentals they need to master before acquiring further knowledge of sound. In order to achieve this, students will undertake several practical assignments with the purpose of understanding the physical properties of sound and developing creative workflows for its treatment.

The goal is for students to understand the physical characteristics of the soundwaves, as well as their treatment during the recording, editing and mixing processes of a music production. Furthermore, they will learn the basics concerning the elements involved in the capture and treatment of sound and their use. Finally, through practical exercises, they will also learn how to auditively discriminate sound, in order to process it and identify possible problems.
Sound design I and II

Sound design I and II

In this subject, students will learn how to design any sound from scratch, as well as how to emulate different sounds just by hearing them. Students will be able to recreate any sound of the sector productions through Serum and Massive, two of the current standards of electronic music.

The goal of this subject is for students to acquire a basic knowledge about synthesis and subtractive synthesis, as well as to be able to create any kind of sound by using the different synthesizers covered in the subject.

This subject is not restricted to a specific style but sounds from many current styles will be designed: Dubstep, House, Progressive, Electro, Dance, Indie/Rock, Pop, Hip hop, Drum and Bass, etc. 
History and aesthetics of modern music I

History and aesthetics of modern music I

This subject offers our students a global view on all popular music styles of the 20th century, from the origins of jazz until the present days, excluding genres that are directly linked to the development of electronic tools. 

This way, and thought of as a complement to the subject of history and aesthetics of electronic music, these classes provide the contextualised knowledge about phenomena like jazz, pop, popular songs, rock, world music and other sounds that can be useful to open the creative minds of musicians.
Harmony I

Harmony I

With this course the key skills of harmony are acquired to create successful small chord progressions in major mode and minor, with their melodic motifs.

Throughout classes improve the ability to create melodic motifs that generate memory power listeners. It will also discuss harmonically producer themes of reference.

This the student will understand the operation of the vertical harmony (chords) and horizontal (melodies) assimilating the concept of tonality, either higher or lower, both on the map and in the traditional midi staff.
Sound Dramaturgy

Sound Dramaturgy

The main goal of this subject is to foster the creative abilities of the student in the field of sound design, through sound analysis and its meaning in the audiovisual context; understanding sound as a narrative element, complement to the visual element and the music soundtrack.

With this subject, students will dominate the cultural meaning and the perceptive and psychological effects of sound, its treatment, design and specialisation. Furthermore, he will be able to develop the creativity applied to sound design for audiovisual formats, as well as the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to the professional context. 
Advanced production I

Advanced production I

Covering the most representative styles of the actual market and using Logic Pro X as their main tool, students will learn how to undertake new productions as well as the currently most used production techniques.

All the necessary tools and knowledge will be provided to students, so that they can appropriately execute each step of the production process. 
 
Music language I

Music language I

Through this subject, students will learn the basic tools to understand music language and deepen their knowledge in posterior music subjects. A series of exercises will also be done in order to strengthen their sensitivity towards music theory and its interiorization.
Introduction to piano

Introduction to piano

Through this subject, you will learn basic aspects of piano/keyboard interpretation, which are very useful in music production: basic techniques of the instrument, harmonic interpretation, expressiveness and improvisation. 

You will also work the application and mastery of harmonic language concepts used in other subjects. The goal is to get a basic level that will let us play and record melodies, chord patterns and simple piano arrangements. 
All this knowledge will improve our production process and will help us in being faster when creating and writing quick ideas. 
History and aesthetics of electronic music I and II

History and aesthetics of electronic music I and II

The main goal of this subject is to foster the critical abilities of the student concerning electronic music: understanding what he hears further than its form and to be able to contextualise its implicit connotations (social, racial, economic, cultural and sexual).

Through a chronological study of what electronic music is and has been in the past, the subject focuses on the circumstances which have allowed its evolution and multiple transformations during the last hundred years, so that students possess the tools needed for developing a conceptual cartography in which they can place their own aesthetic.
Project

Project

At the end of the first year, students will complete the first final project of the Diploma and will be able to put into practice all the knowledge acquired during the year.

In this case, they will have to complete an EP with the assistance of a tutor, Àlex del Amo. Students will be able to work on their desired musical style, without restrictions. 
Dj (optional)

Dj (optional)

In this subject, which is optional, the student will learn to use a standard DJ booth, as well as the different softwares used nowadays by the professionals in the scene. 

The student will also learn to mix on different platforms: controllers, CDJs and turntables (with Serato). He’ll also acquire basic knowledge on how to drive a set in a club, from preparation to execution. 

This lessons will be held individually teacher/student.
Mix I and mastering II

Mix I and mastering II

In this subject, all the tools and methodologies required for the making of professional mixes and masterings will be provided to students.

The difference between a professional and an amateur production is often determined by the mixing and mastering processes. Great productions can be affected by a bad process of finalisation if there is lack of knowledge and/or an appropriate technique is not applied.

This subject will provide students with all the necessary knowledge and techniques in order to obtain music productions with a great sound quality.
Harmony II & III

Harmony II & III

This subject will settle the knowledge acquired in the course of harmony taught through the first year. Deepen the use of major and minor keys using side agreements, by extension, replacement and intermodal. 

It will also develop the ability to modulate (change tone) among different shades. Therefore, improve the ability to create chord progressions in both major and minor mode. Also it will affect the capacity for creating melodic motifs that create memory to the listener. 

In the second part of this course, we’ll see more advanced harmonic concepts: hybrid chords, poly-harmony, re harmonization techniques, common harmonic patterns, non-modal and tonal harmonies, etc. 

We’ll also delve into the creation of melodies and harmonic accompaniment through exercises and projects.
Music language II and III

Music language II and III

These modules cover the training of musical language, both the theory and practical application, in more depth in order to serve as a solid base for other musical modules of the diploma and also allow the students to appreciate the importance of music as an artistic language and means of cultural expression.
These modules develop musical sensitivity allowing the students to skillfully handle the interpretation and composition of music and which will be useful to them when it comes to applying this to their own productions or working on joint projects with musicians and performers.
Musical self-management I

Musical self-management I

This module aims to provide students with advanced knowledge to facilitate their artistic self-management (contracts, rights and obligations), as well as recording management (how the different departments work, systems for the promotion and distribution of their music, musical management, licences, income, label copy, release info, anti-piracy systems, timings, digital monetisation, etc.)

Aspects of editorial management (author’s rights, management entities, registration procedures, music for adverts/films, sampling of third parties, etc.) will also be covered, all conveyed using real, practical cases.

History and aesthetics of modern music II

This subject follows the History and Aesthetics of modern music of first course. Those classes will provide the student of knowledge of modern music, explaining the most important musical events from the XX century to the actuality.
Advanced production II

Advanced production II

In this subject, students will learn to use all the tools and resources offered by Cubase when producing music.

Once all the functions of the program have been explained, students will put into practice all the knowledge acquired by completing practical assignments consisting on projects of all musical styles. 
Film Scoring I and II

Film Scoring I and II

This subject covers the basic knowledge needed for correctly instrumenting a project in form of modern music, orchestral music or both. The ability to create bass lines, accompaniments, main melodies and countermelodies will be developed.

The goal is for students to become able to understand how the main instrument groups work in order to know how to use them in the music creation process. Instrumental narrative resources will also be introduced as a topic through the consciousness-raising of the relationship that the subconscious establishes between the timbre of the instrument, the harmony of music and human feelings.
Remixes and covers

Remixes and covers

The production of remixes –both official and non-official- has become one of the foundations of the professional career of every artist or producer, up to the point of being as important as own productions.

The goal of this subject is to introduce students to the world of mixing by using the popular software Ableton Live, and giving them the basic resources for the execution of such works.

Recording Techniques II

This subject is the continuation of Recoding Techniques I. It is completely linked to the Final Project II, which has an important recording component.

This subject is imparted in 44.1 studios, where students can work within a professional environment by using high-end equipment.
Sound design III

Sound design III

Third part of the synthesis module. In this subject, Spire will be the main tool to use. The students will learn advanced techniques to create different sounds using the different synthesis that Spire offers us. 

The objective of this subject is to settle down the knowledge with a lot of practice in sound design. Sound design is one of the most difficult parts of production, but it’s also one of the most important in order to create your own sound. 
Sound design and sound for audiovisuals

Sound design and sound for audiovisuals

In this subject, the student will learn to sonorize audiovisual content with the help of pre-recorded materials, synthesis and foleys.

The subject will also cover recording techniques for filming recordings, as well as the creation and recording of foleys.

In today’s audiovisual world, the treatment of sound and music have gained a lot of prominence; they can strenghten image to levels which were inconceivable many years ago. By dealing with both technical and artistic aspects, students will learn the importance of sound design in the audiovisual world.
Film Scoring III

Film Scoring III

Deepening work in techniques of film scoring applied to the world of video games. Making a historical review of video games from the beginning, we’ll analyze the evolution of musical style and technical resources to the current games. 
Music composition concepts used in music for video games and specific techniques of interactive music creation will be worked on. 
We will acquire tools to create sound textures for video games: knowledge of orchestration concepts, introduction to orchestral MIDI creation, creation of descriptive / expressive music, etc. 
Within this subject, we will also work on the edition of scores in LOGIC, as a fundamental tool in the process of recording soundtracks.

Sound design for videogames with Pro Tools I y II

Video games are a paradigm on their own in the application of audio. There non-linear aspect makes them unique and special, alive and dynamic as no other audio production. Throughout this subject the students will learn to use the basic professional tools needed to develop the audio of a video game in all its aspects: dialogues, ambience, effects and music. 
Through the fases of: production, recording, editing, mixing, exportation and finally the implementation of the audio, they will complete a real video game. 

The main goal of this subject is for the student to become capable of generating and integrating audio into a video game on a professional level, making use of Pro Tools as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and Unity as middleware.

Expansion and application of concepts learnt in harmony subjects. Analysis and use of advanced composing tecnhiques. Knowledge of music theory beyond tonal music in order to amplify resources and explore contemporary sounds in our compositions.
Management

Management

The figure of the manager, many times –or at least at the beginning–, is represented by the actual artist or music group. It is for this reason that basic knowledge about the different types of contracts and negotiation systems is needed, in order to survive in the music market.

In this subject the different functions that a manager develops within the music industry will be learnt, as well as how to be a good professional and self-manage management and artistic representation tasks.

Business coaching

This subject aims to give the students new skills and capabilities to get into the working market, as well as increase their self knowledge in order to offer the best of themselves in this working market.
The students will also learn to focus towards their goals, develop their communication skills and teamwork, as well as the usage of coaching and NLP tools to make the best of themselves in every situation.

Branding

The music market has undergone big changes in recent years evidencing the need for brands to reinvent themselves and use different strategies to capture consumers. This module provides students with the necessary knowledge and methodologies to transform a product into a brand, through the analysis of consumer groups and their needs and the generation of emotional connections and experiences, with the end goal of getting their products to a sector of consumers and securing their loyalty.

Livesets creation and performance

The Liveset is a necessary format for every producer. We have many clear examples of artists who exclusively perform in Live format.

In this subject, necessary tools and methodologies for the making and execution of Livesets will be provided to students.

Students will acquire the knowledge they need in order to convert Ableton Live into a powerful weapon when it comes to performing a Liveset. By using MIDI controllers, they will learn to externally control a session with Live.

The current situation of the market has made it necessary to train professionals who are able to create and manage their own enterprise. It is for this reason that this subject intends to give the essential knowledge that every entrepreneur needs to take into account when it comes to developing their own project within the music industry.

The main goal is that students becomes capable of creating and consolidating their business initiative in the sector and gets familiar with the basic techniques to develop their desired commercial activity.

This subject is looked into as a theoretic subject in which the basic aspects of organisation and management of events will be tought, as well as the legal requirements for their development and the most important tools on the market for promotion and marketing. 

Furthermore, the students will be introduced into the management of professional relations and human resources in the organisation of concerts or other kinds of musical events.

Music marketing

In this subject students will acquire a general vision of the functioning of marketing when applied to the music industry sector. 

Furthermore, different channels which can be helpful to give more diffusion to a music project, both at online and offline levels, will be studied. The role of social media and how it works in this process of communication will also be part of the syllabus.

Finally, students will be prepared to develop a strategic plan focused on the attainment of their objectives.
Live acoustics and sound

Live acoustics and sound

This subject intends to clarify the behaviour of sound and its physical characteristics, the tools and elements needed for live –or not– reproduction of different acts and performances.

Through theoretical and practical exercises, students will be able to apply corrective actions, optimize and use the chain of elements of a more appropriate electroacoustic system for the activity and space to work on.

Web creation

Through this subject, students will learn to create websites trough the content management system WordPress. Websites will be as a promotion tool and main window display of the project that every student wants to diffuse.

The main objective of the subject, rather than learning about programming, is to acquire the necessary knowledge about basic elements, architecture and structure in order for the website to be intuitive, usable and optimized for the main search engines.

An introduction to the website analytics will also be done, so that students are capable to understand how visiting users behave. Finally, basic aspects of SEO will be also treated, so that students are able to create an optimized website for the main search engines.

Eumes Meets Oscar Araujo

Oscar Araujo, one of the most renowned music producers of the sector in our country, will give four classes where two topics will be addressed: on one hand the creation of video games and, on the other hand, a series of tools to get initiated in the labour market of the music and/or audiovisual fields.
TFD

TFD

During the third year, every student will complete a project based in the production of an LP, an EP or a soundtrack. Everyone has the chance to choose the stylistic area they want to work on, depending on their own personal project and preferences.

The project will be carried out within the facilities provided by EUMES, as well as in 44.1 studios. Furthermore, several professionals within the music production sector will show up in the school in order to assess every stuent in the making of their project.
